Counseling

The Foundation provides individuals with the information needed to effectively manage Sickle Cell Disease through counseling. The Counseling program is designed to offer awareness to individuals about the disease, provide medical support, while ensuring that their psychological and social needs are continually met.

Counseling is offered to:

  • Clients with the Sickle Cell Disease and their family
  • Trait carriers
  • At risk couples and individuals
  • Newborn Screening program clients and family

The Foundation also facilitates a support group for teens and their parents. The purpose of the support group is to provide a platform for these families to discuss a common problem and mutually support one another. Additionally support group participants share their experiences coping with sickle cell disease. Components of this support group include: 

  • Monthly meetings (open to clients, their family and community members)
  • Guest Speakers
  • Social Activities
  • Workshops and seminars
  • Literacy training
